Garrett Howell O.D. grew up in Riverton, Wyoming; graduating with honors from Riverton High School. Dr. Howell studied at the University of Wyoming and maintained Dean’s Honor Roll standing while providing for his family. His professional training was completed with Cum Laude honors at The Ohio State University College of Optometry and included rotations at the Columbus Ohio Veterans Hospital as well as extensive patient care at Cataract and LASIK surgery centers. Dr. Howell was inducted into Beta Sigma Kappa honor society and also participated in SVOSH (Student Volunteers for Optometric Service to Humanity), providing examinations and eyewear to underprivileged areas of Guatemala and Honduras. He serves locally in his church group as well as providing care through outreach clinics for those with financial hardship. Dr. Howell is a member of the American Optometric Association as well as the Wyoming Optometric Association, carries licensure in Wyoming and Colorado, and is DEA certified to prescribe oral and topical medication for the treatment of eye-related diseases. Dr. Howell actively participates as an associate clinical professor by mentoring optometry students from the Illinois College of Optometry, Pacific University College of Optometry as well as Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry and has been recognized for teaching excellence in the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program. Garrett and his wife, Jane, have daughters Taylor and Claira and sons Mason and Kenton. He and his wife enjoy living in Laramie because of its forward-minded people, small-town feel, and the diversity of activities/programs that the University of Wyoming brings. The Howell family loves having close proximity to the beautiful mountains and often spends time outdoors hiking, biking, camping, and pursuing the crisp mountain air.
